Soon after the initial ideas were formed the business itself was taken over and run by the German trio of Dziambor, Lausen and Voss who laid the important foundations that would see the business grow into a leading international luxury brand. The famous brand name came about during a card game conversation comparing the pinnacle of Mont Blanc the mountain with the pinnacle in the realm of writing instruments and so the association was born in 1909.

In 1997 the watch division was established in Le Locle, Switzerland as Montblanc Montres SA and the same year Montblanc exhibited at the famous watch show the SIHH in Geneva and made a big impact with its entrée into watches with the lovingly handcrafted Meisterstuck watch.
In 2007 the brand’s watchmaking credentials were given a huge boost with the foundation and opening of the Institut Minerva de Recherche de Haute Horlogerie in Villeret, Switzerland. A year later in 2008 they launched their first proprietary movement, developed at the Institut , called the MBR100 calibre and named in tribute to the founder of the chronograph it was called the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec.
