Best known since 1900 for the creation of beautiful luxury writing instruments that were first imagined by a German duo, Alfred Nehemias and August Eberstein, Montblanc is a name synonymous with precision, quality and finesse. Soon after the initial ideas were formed the business itself was taken over and run by the German trio of Dziambor, Lausen and Voss who laid the important foundations that would see the business grow into a leading international luxury brand. The famous brand name came about during a card game conversation comparing the pinnacle of Mont Blanc the mountain with the pinnacle in the realm of writing instruments and so the association was born in 1909.
In 1993 the Dunhill Holding company that had bought the business in the 1980’s was acquired by the the Vendome Luxury Group, later renamed the Richemont Group, the second largest luxury group in the world. In 1997 the watch division was established in Le Locle, Switzerland as Montblanc Montres SA and the same year Montblanc exhibited at the famous watch show the SIHH in Geneva and made a big impact with its entrée into watches with the lovingly handcrafted Meisterstuck watch.
In 2007 the brand’s watchmaking credentials were given a huge boost with the foundation and opening of the Institut Minerva de Recherche de Haute Horlogerie in Villeret, Switzerland. A year later in 2008 they launched their first proprietary movement, developed at the Institut , called the MBR100 calibre and named in tribute to the founder of the chronograph it was called the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec. The Montblanc 1858 collection includes highly complex complications such as the exo-tourbillon rattrappante. In 2014 the launched the Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage collection and in 2015 a Montblanc Timewalker complete with integrated tech strap. Other popular collections include the Montblanc 4810, the Montblanc Boheme, Montblanc Summit, Montblanc Tradition and Montblanc Villeret.
